In the previous lesson, MySQL Step By Step: Subqueries, we learned to use subqueries. Today, we're going to show how to change the structure of an existing database, we'll use transactions and views.
Changing the database structure
MySQL allows us to change the structure of an existing database while keeping
the existing data in it. We do it by the ALTER
statement.
Changing the table structure
We can do several changes to a table. To add, change, and remove columns, is
now the most important for us. Let's add a new thumbs_up
column to
the comment
table, so our visitors can rate the comments:
