Familiar, all beginners in photoshop wonder this question. Well on the subject of sports, I know basket ball photos. They offer a huge selection of vector images including basketball motifs. In addition, also try resources that specialize in sports images. I think you'll have enough options. There are photos without backgrounds, there are photos with. And the quality is top notch.

I too have been looking for vector images for a basketball related project. One of my favorite resources is Freepik. There are tons of free and paid vector images with basketball themes there.
